Why I'm Running

I’m running because Cary needs experienced, informed leadership to navigate the challenges ahead.

With less than 10% of Cary’s land remaining for new development, our focus has shifted toward redevelopment. As a result, population and tax base growth have slowed.

Historically, Cary’s rapid growth expanded our tax base, allowing us to invest in the services and infrastructure that support our high quality of life. Slower growth means revenue is no longer keeping pace with inflation or the rising costs of maintaining aging infrastructure. This shift calls for careful financial stewardship and thoughtful prioritization.

To maintain the standards our community values, we must make responsible, forward-looking decisions about how we allocate our resources.

In this complex era, experience matters more than ever.  I understand the ins and outs of our budget, zoning, and infrastructure issues – and the delicate balance between them.

I’ve also built strong relationships with business leaders, fellow elected officials, and nonprofit organizations—partnerships that are essential to Cary’s continued success.

If elected, you can count on me to:

  • Guide Cary through our changing fiscal and land use matters.

  • Help ensure that Cary remains the best place to live and work, accomplished with the leanest budget and the lowest taxes possible.

  • Invest in and maintain the core services that matter most—safe roads, reliable water and sewer, trusted police and fire protection, and exceptional parks and green spaces.

  • Continue to foster a respectful Council culture – one that works across party lines for the sake of Cary’s future.

Meet Jennifer

I'm Jennifer Robinson, and for nearly three decades, Cary has been my home, my community, and my life's work. As a mother of four, an IT professional, and a dedicated public servant, I understand what makes our town special—and what it takes to keep it that way as we navigate the challenges ahead.

A Legacy of Public Service

I moved to Cary in 1995, looking for a community with a better quality of life.  Over the last thirty years, I have enjoyed being here to raise my four children, work in the IT industry, and serve others.

In the mid-90s, a lot of development was happening in the western side of town, and we lacked adequate roads, water, schools, parks, retail, and other amenities.  Most of all, western Cary needed strong leadership.

I got engaged, attending Council meetings; circulating petitions; having meetings with council members, town staff, and school board members; and serving on the Growth Management Task Force.

In 1999, the Council selected me serve the remaining two years of a vacant seat. I have since served as the District A representative, taking my responsibility to be a steward of our community seriously.

When I first joined the Council, I wrote, “Cary will be defined by not just what we build, but what we refuse to destroy.” Small town charm, a sense of community, natural land, a feeling of safety.  These are some of the elements that drew many of us to Cary, and I have worked hard to preserve them as our town grew.

But I set out to do more than keep Cary great; I worked to improve our standing as one of the best places to live in America.  I have always held by the tenet: if you are going to do it, do it right.
